God Keeps His Word

Genesis 21:1–8 (NASB95)

1Then the Lord took note of Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah as He had promised. 2So Sarah conceived and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the appointed time of which God had spoken to him. 3Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac. 4Then Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him. 5Now Abraham was one hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him. 6Sarah said, “God has made laughter for me; everyone who hears will laugh with me.” 7And she said, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.” 8The child grew and was weaned, and Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned.

God fulfilled His promise to Abraham and Sarah. After twenty-five years of waiting, Sarah gave birth to Isaac. The Lord acted exactly as He said He would. The timing was perfect. Isaac arrived at the appointed time, showing that God controls every detail. Human limitations did not stop Him. Sarah was far beyond childbearing years, but God’s power made the impossible possible.

Abraham named his son Isaac, which means “he laughs.” This name captured the transformation of Sarah’s laughter. She once laughed in disbelief. Now she laughed with joy. God turned her doubt into celebration. Abraham obeyed God’s command and circumcised Isaac on the eighth day. This act marked Isaac as the child of promise and showed Abraham’s growing faith. He trusted God’s word and acted without delay.

Sarah’s joy overflowed. She said, “God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears will laugh with me.” Her testimony spread hope and joy to others. The weaning celebration for Isaac was a public event. It marked his survival through infancy and declared him as Abraham’s true heir. The whole household recognized God’s faithfulness.

Isaac’s arrival brought relief, but it also prepared Abraham for even greater tests ahead. God’s gifts often come with new responsibilities. The story of Isaac’s birth reminds us that God’s faithfulness never fails, even when we struggle to believe.

God keeps His promises, even when the wait is long and the situation seems hopeless. Trust His timing. Obey His commands, even in small things. Celebrate His faithfulness openly so others can share in your joy. Remember that God’s blessings prepare us for future challenges. Let your faith deepen through testing.
